We are building 36,0000 new homes - 12k of them affordable - by 2025 across all 8 wards. Mayor Bowser Increases District’s Authority to Purchase and Preserve Affordable Housing Mayor Muriel Bowser announced new regulations that will provide the Executive Office with authority, under the District Opportunity to Purchase Act (DOPA), to preserve more affordable housing for Washingtonians. The new regulations were developed at the recommendation of the DC Housing Preservation Strike Force, a committee created by the Mayor in 2015. Mayor Bowser Announces First Investment from Affordable Housing Preservation Fund Almost $11 million from the $40 million fund will help preserve over 80 units in Wards 1 and 4. DC Government funding to provide housing for over 2,600 Washingtonians The 11 projects are in Wards 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8, and consist of five new production projects, three preservation projects, and three mixed projects that preserve existing units but will also add new affordable units. DC Agencies to Identify Ways to Fulfill Mayor’s Housing Goals Recently, Mayor Muriel Bowser signed a Mayor’s Order on housing directing District agencies to identify new policies, tools, and initiatives to begin fulfilling her bold goal of creating 36,000 new housing units, 12,000 of them affordable, by 2025.
